What's on: Tuesday

NBC beats Fox to the hook tonight, being the first to debut its sing-the-right-lyrics game show: SINGING BEE (9:30 p.m.) hosted by Joey Fatone. Fox's Don't Forget the Lyrics premieres tomorrow.

CBS hopes a BIG BROTHER 8 ousting (9 p.m.) as a lead in will help PIRATE MASTER (10 p.m.), which I happen to be enjoying thoroughly. Both decent shows as far as reality competitions go.

And, in an unprecedented occasion where I will put up a sports presentation two days in a row, the MLB ALL-STAR GAME (Fox/8 p.m.) comes to you from San Francisco this year... so Barry Bonds doesn't get booed for sullying the sport every time he walks on the field. Not that it's his fault alone... different discussion... sorry.

Also new: America's Got Talent on NBC; Shaq's Big Challenge on ABC; Wide Angle and POV (which will discuss the Newark riots) on PBS; Miami Ink on TLC; Dirty Jobs and the debut of Build it Bigger on Discovery; Eureka's season premiere and ECW on Sci-Fi; Kathy Griffin on Bravo.

"Singing Bee" should be a one-hour drama about a man with the irresistable, life-destroying compulsion to dress sing in public whilst dressed in a bee costume. No man or beast will ever convince me otherwise.

That said, what's the deal with this "Don't Forget the Lyrics" show? Who determines what song you're singing, and how long do you have to memorize it? Because I can't imagine the show is people going on stage, saying "i'm going to sing (name of song they planned in advance to sing)" and then trying real, real hard not to forget how to sing it. Are we as a people, all of us, incapable of memorizing a snippet or two of bad poetry set to music?

ALL OF US?

Incidentally, that should've been "to sing in public..." and not "to dress sing in public..." which is a completely meaningless phrase.

Clearly I was always meant to work in editing...

Well, if my blog's not entertaining, at least the comments are.

I'll look at the two against each other tonight.
