What's on: Thursday

Broad spectrum of content to chose from tonight.

ABC's banking on some buzz -- the finals of the 2007 SCRIPPS NATIONAL SPELLING BEE (8 p.m.). It should be edited down to two hours, so it won't be totally intolerable.

Premiering tonight is CBS' PIRATE MASTER (8 p.m.). My sad connection to Survivor has me needing to watch this even though it's just another reality competition show.

Also new: 5th Grader and So You Think You Can Dance on Fox; TNA Impact and Ultimate Fighter on Fox.

I was at Pete and Elda's picking up lunch this afternoon and saw a few minutes of a spelling be on ESPNHD, being played on a beautiful flat screen set up at the bar.

Forgiving the fact that a spelling bee was televised on ESPN (on which I also think I've seen competitive grilling before), why would you possibly need to see a spelling bee in high definition? Do I need crystal-clear images of 12-year olds thinking really, really hard?

"No" is the answer to that question.

Um...also, that first mention should be spelling "bee." The irony is not lost on me, despite the fact that I'm clearly a moron.

You can spell stuff wrong all you want... at least you're responding to my posts. It's nice to know someone other than my dad reads...
